Patterns and 3D Modelling

* The idea : Eastern cultures are represented through the outer look of the music box.
* Represented through a hybrid pattern (a mix from Chinese, Malay and Indian textile/tiles/ornaments patterns).

* Chinese symmetric railing patterns.

* Malay "Garis Miring", the diagonal arrangement.

* Indian "Boteh" pattern (Flower).
* Final pattern is taken from Chinese symmetry, Malay diagonal arrangement and Indian pattern.

* Hand drawn pattern.
* Blackened in Adobe Photoshop.

* Takes quite some time to draw, Hajar taught how to use Adobe Illustrator to draw the grid, it saves a lot of time.

* Drawn in Adobe Illustrator.

* Blackened in Adobe Photoshop.

* Applying the patterns on the object. (To see how it looks like).
* Andreas suggested to use a 3D software. (Google SketchUp, blender or meshlab).
* For a beginner, SketchUp is easier to understand than the other two. (Lawrence helped in explaining how this software works).

* Measuring the lines using "divide".
* Patterns drawn on the surface.

* "Push and Pull" to create a depth.
* The first patterned box.

* Lines drawn on the box.

* The second patterned box.

* A little change in the shape.
* Patterns drawn.

* The third patterned box.

* First patterned box with handle (w/out lines).

* Second patterned box with handle (w/out lines).

* Third patterned box with handle (w/out lines).

* Teresa pointed out that the box shape looks like a coffin and it does look like one.
* Consideration in the change in of the shape of the box.
