Idea Development

*Hacked - item : CLOCK
*idea#1 :
-minute hand - MOON (rotates as the clock minute hand rotates)
-hour hand - EARTH (rotates as the clock hour hand rotates)
-middle : SUN (stand still)

*idea#2 :
-clock - EARTH
-minute hand - MOON (rotates very slow - needs to +- 27 days to finish one rotation)
-hour hand - original intention (to show hour)
-middle : SUN (stand still)

*Final choice : idea#2
*Description :
The topic is hacking an electronic device. Giving the hacked item a new meaning or function. The theme of the work is time zone. The item that is going to be used is a clock. The setup is shown in the image below. The clock is placed inside a box. A lamp that hangs from the top of the box is used to represent the sun. The lamp will be divided into two parts, the front part and the back part. The front part is the part where the light shines whereas the back part is the part where there is no light, the covered part. The clock itself represents the earth. The surface of the clock will be changed to an image of a map of the world. The minute hand of the clock will hold a small sphere, which represents the moon. The moon itself is rotating and at the same time it is revolving the earth, which is the clock. Both the rotation and the revolution take the same amount of time, 27 days. As for the earth (the clock), it will rotate back to its original position every 12 hours. As it rotates, there will be time when part of the map is not shone by the light. The part where there is no light represents night and the part where there is a light represents day. On the other hand, the hour hand acts as what it should be, the hour hand. It shows the current time.

*Sketching out how the setup will look like
*The problem lays on the sun (location of the sun)

*Rough sketches of the setup

*Initial idea
*Mistakes are there:
-The location of the SUN clashes with the rotation of the MOON
-The location of the map of the EARTH

*Sketch and some description on how it works

*The setup
*Special Thanks to Yuliana, Winny, Erfi and Meryanche for the suggestions and opinion
