Sound Experiment

Is 'Sound' effective?

* Venue : Orchard Road, in front of Paragon Shopping Mall.
* Taken : 06/09/08.
* The sign 'No Crossing here' doesn't seem to be effective.
* People cross right below the sign.

* Using the previous sound circuit
* Placing the circuit on the floor, beside the trash bin (it's small).
* Experiment -FAILED-
- The sound from the environment (e.g vehicles, construction, crowd) beat the sound of the circuit.
- Circuit is placed too low, no one noticed the sound at all.

* Attached the circuit on a metal barrier used in construction work.

* The circuit was attached on shoulder-level height.

* Some people noticed the sound.
* They did nothing, just looked back at the device, and then, walked back.

* The 'quite' successful experiment :
- The grandma and the kid were trying to cross the road.
- Both of them were startled by the sound.
- Stepped back and decided not to cross.
- After a while, the grandma and the kid were seen jaywalking with the other pedestrians. (-FAILED-).

* There were greater number in people who did not realise/ aware of the sound. (-TOTAL FAILURE-).

* 'WHY' it failed (probability) :
- Sound too soft (Sound in the environment too loud).
- Need to be close to the circuit to actually trigger the system to work.
